Another Smile Organisation International is a community-rooted, globally-minded charity building lasting pathways out of poverty through education, talent, skills, and rapid community support.
Founded in Uganda in 2018, we now collaborate with partners across Africa and Europe to create another reason to smile for children, youth, and families.
We walk alongside children, youth, and families to unlock skills, opportunity, and dignity. Every program is community-led, transparent, and designed to last long after the cameras leave.
Founded: 2018, Uganda
Co-founders: Buyinza Julius (Barbi Jay), Namala Ruth, Kajjubi Peter
New partners: including Lena Mari Nikolaisen (Norway) and a growing global network.
Scholarships, school fees, and learning materials keep underprivileged children in classrooms and on track for a different future.
Music, arts, sports, dance, and creative industries become platforms for confidence, income, and community leadership.
Practical skills from knitting and handmade products to digital skills and entrepreneurship help families build sustainable incomes.
We measure success in school attendance, jobs created, families stabilised, and communities ready to respond when crisis hits.

Another Smile Organisation International began in 2018 in Uganda when founders Buyinza Julius (also known as Barbi Jay), Namala Ruth, and Kajjubi Peter responded to the needs they saw around them: children out of school, talented youth without opportunity, and families one crisis away from losing everything.
What began as a small act of compassion has grown into an international organisation partnering with friends and supporters from Uganda, across Africa, and around the world – including early international partner Lena Mari Nikolaisen from Norway.
A world where every child, youth, and family has the opportunity, skills, and support to live with dignity and hope.
To empower vulnerable communities through education, talent development, skills training, poverty eradication, and emergency response – guided by transparency, partnership, and local leadership.

Purpose: To ensure that children and youth from vulnerable families can access and complete quality education.
Who it helps: Underprivileged children and youth who are at risk of dropping out of school due to financial barriers.
How it works: We provide scholarships, pay school fees, supply uniforms and learning materials, and work closely with guardians and schools to track attendance and performance.
Impact in real lives: A single scholarship can keep a child in school, reduce the pressure on their family, and open doors to further training and employment.
Purpose: To uncover and nurture talents in music, arts, sports, dance, and creative industries as vehicles for personal growth and income.
Who it helps: Young people with creative or athletic gifts who lack access to mentorship, safe spaces, and basic resources.
How it works: We organise mentorship programs, workshops, and showcases, and connect youth with role models and opportunities in their fields.
Impact in real lives: Talented youth gain confidence, build supportive networks, and can transform their gifts into stable careers that uplift their families and communities.
Purpose: To equip youth and caregivers with practical skills that can generate sustainable livelihoods.
Who it helps: Unemployed youth, young mothers, and families with limited formal education but strong motivation to learn and work.
How it works: We run trainings in knitting, crocheting, handmade products, digital skills, and entrepreneurship, often in partnership with local artisans and trainers.
Impact in real lives: Participants move from dependency to creating and selling products or services, increasing household income and resilience.
Purpose: To move families from surviving day-to-day to building stable, independent incomes.
Who it helps: Low-income households, especially those caring for many children, people with disabilities, or elderly guardians.
How it works: We provide small business capital, basic financial literacy, and close follow-up as families start or expand micro-enterprises.
Impact in real lives: Families can pay rent, keep children in school, save for emergencies, and plan for the future with less fear.
Purpose: To stand with communities when disaster, sickness, or sudden crises threaten lives and livelihoods.
Who it helps: Families affected by fires, floods, sickness, bereavement, or other emergencies that push them into extreme vulnerability.
How it works: We mobilise local volunteers and resources to provide targeted support such as food, temporary shelter, medical assistance, and psychosocial support, while planning for longer-term recovery.
Impact in real lives: Immediate help prevents families from falling deeper into poverty, and connects them to our wider programs for ongoing support.
Why rapid response matters
A small, timely intervention during crisis can protect years of progress: keeping children in school, businesses open, and communities hopeful.
Our story is proudly Ugandan – and intentionally global. We believe that solutions born in communities facing poverty, unemployment, and crisis can inspire and inform change everywhere.
With partners like Lena Mari Nikolaisen in Norway and a growing circle of friends, churches, NGOs, and individual supporters around the world, we are creating a bridge between local initiative and international solidarity.
Our international expansion strategy:
At every stage, community members shape priorities, lead implementation, and share feedback. International partners bring resources, networks, and shared learning – never top-down control.
We welcome partnerships with NGOs, foundations, churches, companies, and individual ambassadors who share our commitment to dignity, transparency, and sustainable change.
